Sweet Potato Pepper

fashion for you, help for dogs

Frequently Asked Questions

How did Sweet Potato Pepper™ start anyway?

The idea for Sweet Potato Pepper™ was inspired by our late angel of a dog, Bailey. Bailey was a wise and kind soul who was a rescue from death row in West Virginia. After her passing, we wanted to do something to help other dogs like Bailey; dogs who need someone to take a chance on them and save them from a cruel fate. There are so many dogs (and cats, for that matter) who were innocently brought into this world and cast aside. It’s up to us to give them a voice and help them.  We can give them good homes and loving families in return for their unconditional love and constant companionship.

The name Sweet Potato Pepper™ is a combination of three of Bailey's nicknames.

Where do all of the t-shirt designs come from?

All the t-shirt designs were inspired by pop culture references and rescue dogs - we combined them into one idea! Have a cool doggie tee idea? Let us know!

Where exactly does all the money go again? This is a charity, right?

All the proceeds after cost go to the rescues. The rescues will use this money to help save dogs and cats from high kill shelters and place them in loving, responsible permanent homes. Most of the rescues are run entirely by volunteers, so they depend on contributions to keep the organizations running. Donations cover the costs of rescuing, rehabilitating and responsibly re-homing the animals. The donations also cover huge medical bills such as treating heartworm, parvo, distemper, and any necessary surgeries, etc. They also need help paying for basic costs such as crates, food, gas, harnesses, leashes, ID tags, etc.

So how much money is actually donated then?

All of our proceeds after cost go to the rescues.  Here is the breakdown:

  • Each shirt retails for $25.00.
  • The wholesale cost of each shirt is $5.50 which we keep to buy more inventory.
  • We also keep an additional $4.50 a shirt to help our website keep running, to help pay for any advertising, and to help fund any new product development.
  • So the total amount that will be donated after cost for each t-shirt is $15.00
  • Each Doggerchief™ retails for $10.
  • The wholesale cost of each Doggerchief™ is $5.25 which we keep to buy more inventory.
  • So the total amount that will be donated after cost for each doggerchief is $4.75.
  • The start-up costs were funded by Kellyn & Ian as an investment.

I love dogs just as much as the next person. Do you donate to save homeless cats too?

Why yes, we do. A lot of the rescues listed are not exclusive to dogs. They are rescues for dogs and cats mainly, but some even rescue other animals such as bunnies.  To find out, please visit each nominated rescues website for more info.

Are all of the t-shirts really made in the USA? I mean, really???

Yes! All of our t-shirts are made by Sustain U in the good ol' U.S. of A. Not only are they made in the U.S.A but they are also sustainable made with 50% recycled polyester and 50% recycled cotton, so it's also a bonus for the environment. Check out their website to find out more!

What are your plans for next season?

If all goes according to plan, we will continue to introduce new t-shirt designs as well as new Doggerchief™ designs to appease the masses.
